Rosters & Recruiting
- Schools inherit their team's rosters. For instance, a WR on Florida State is only allowed to be on Florida State. They can be in free agency and can only be added by Florida State. A move such as this would be free.
- Schools receive a 20% discount on recruiting for players that are from that school's state. This info must be shown in their Rivals.com profile. For instance, recruit WR Jake Oliver is from Jesuit HS in Dallas, TX. Therefore, Texas can bid $100k on him from their recruiting budget, but only $80k will come from their recruiting budget. It is assumed that Mitchell would commit to Texas for a lesser scholarship amount.
- Schools receive a 10% discount on recruiting for players that are from those States (or Canadian/Mexican provinces) that border that school's State. For the sake of Alaska and Hawaii, those states are considered to border Washington, Oregon, and California. The entire Caribbean is considered to border Florida. Players that are somehow from Central America, Greenland, or any other continent outside North America do not have the availability of a discount.
- Schools receive a 10% discount if that team won its conference in the previous season. For 2012, everyone begins on a level playing field.
- Schools receive a 10% discount if that team won the NCAA Title in the previous season. For 2012, everyone begins on a level playing field.
- Schools receive a 5% discount if that team won a non-playoff bowl game (teams in the 4-school playoff already receive discounts).
- Schools receive a 5% discount if that team made the playoffs as a Wild Card.
- Educational factors will not be considered as a school such as Penn State or Michigan may be a top institution, but educational decisions also hinge on individual's specific subject goals which is too granular for this league.
- Multiple discounts are additive. Therefore, if Florida won its conference and the NCAA title the previous season, and they were recruiting a player from Georgia, then the total discount available would be 30% (10% + 10% + 10%).
- Recruiting will open sometime after July 1 and remain open until October 1. This allows you to scout players through the first month of the season to make adjustments.
- All incoming Freshman through Seniors are eligible to be bid on as recruits.
- State of origin is that listed on Rivals.com and is of their where they played prep football.
FBS schools are allowed 25 new scholarships each year. Therefore, the annual recruiting budget (no money can be rolled over year-to-year) will be an amount equal to half of that (as each school already has their own players). This amount has been determined to be equal to $1,875,000 ($150k x 12.5). It is a use it or lose it budget. Players who are signed to a team and later released do not give the team more money in their season's recruiting budget. For the sake of roster calculations, this eliminates the necessity of a complex spreadsheet adding up player values. There is simply a limit of the amount of players allowed on a team in Fantrax (100) and the recruiting budget.
Recruiting Rules
Here are the rules for recruiting -
- All players at FBS schools that ARE NOT on the roster of one of our participating schools are eligible to be recruited.
- Each school has an annual recruiting budget of $1,875k. There is no carry over of unused funds.
- You DO NOT pay a scholarship on the players on your school's roster or on players retained from the previous season.
- Minimum bid is $25k. Bid raises need to be a minimum of $25k and in increments of $25k ($25k, $50k, $75k, $100k, etc...) There is no maximum bid raise, so long as it is within your budget.
- You may have no more than 5 open bids at one time
- You may only sign up to 25 non-branded players per season
- You may not be over your budget limit at any time
- Players are to be nominated in the following format: RB Trent Richardson (Pensacola, Florida) Alabama
Hometown information can be found here: http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/index or on Fantrax.
It is important that the format is followed as it will make it much easier for me to apply discounts.
- When a leading bid has been open for 48 hours it will be considered won.
- Before bidding on another owner's opening bid you MUST start two bids of your own.
- Have fun, and be respectful to your fellow league mates. Auctions get testy: remember it is just a game.
